The Sreerangom C.V.N. Kalari Chikilsakendram was established by K. Gopinatha Kurup Gurukal in 1956, the year in which the Kerala State took birth.
He started the Kalari Chikilsakendram in Champakkara, a little village in Kottayam District under the guidance and blessing of his Guru, C.V Narayanan Nair Gurukkal and his son C.V Govindankutty Nair Gurukkal.
Today, this organization is under the patronage of Sreedhara Kurup Gurukkal, the founder's son, who has been in charge for about 30 years.
The Kalari Chikilsa Kendram, which can now boast of a rich tradition of over 50 years, has been striving right from the beginning relentlessly to the practice of Kalari Chikilsa both within and outside Kerala.
Kalarichikilsa (also called Kalarichikitsa, Kalarichikiltsa) or Kalari Therapy is a system of medicine based on Ayurveda, specializing in the treatment of orthopedic disorders, sports injuries and neuromuscular problems like back pain, spondylosis, arthritis, inborn imperfections of the human body, etc. It is a form of therapy which evolved from Ayurveda and developed further in a more specific direction, as a result of the needs of a speedy recovery from sports injuries for the warriors of ancient Kerala.
